After a few relaxing days in Copacabana we were off to explore the Isla del Sol. We decided we would walk up the peninsula from Copacabana and hire a boat across to Yumani, the town on the south end of the Island.
We landed in the South end of the Island in the mid afternoon and after exploring some ruins headed into the town of Yumani and found ourselves a place to sleep for the night. The place we picked had an awesome view for the sunset and was very close to an amazing Candlelit restaurant called Las Velas (The Candles), but unfortunately turned to be a poor choice as Mel’s IPhone went missing from our locked room while we were at supper. We didn’t notice until the following day and tried to talk to the limited staff in hopes they would do the honorable thing and return it. They denied having anything to do with it although they did make mention of details about the phone (like the fact it was bigger then most phones available to them and had the ability to access wifi) even though we didn’t mention this when we originally asked about the disappearance. Do not stay at Hostal Puerta del Sol!
This put a bit of a damper on our second day on this amazing island, but we had to move on to the north side and hoped that when we came back through on our third day they would see the errors of their ways and “find” the missing phone.
Although we lost Mel’s phone (and therefore a lot of pictures from the trip) we both enjoyed the Island. The town on the north side of the Island, Challapampa, was very basic but if we were to do it again I think we would head straight to Challapampa spend a day or 2 relaxing (it’s significantly cheaper then Copacabana) and head south with the sun at our back and the goal of catching the last afternoon ferry to the mainland.
